I’m seeing the people concerned, and more specifically the person concerned, on Friday, but I haven’t yet asked permission to use names. Truth is, I couldn’t wait until Friday to begin the story….
Pretty often, unless God does an ‘instant’ miracle, there are times when you don’t hear of what has happened to someone for months, if ever. About 18 months ago, I was asked by a great friend to go and pray for his Vicar’s wife, in one of the biggest hospitals in Belfast.
She’d been in hospital already for a similar length of time – 18 months – young (40’s I’d guess), and she had a terrible disease that turned some of her vital organs to the quality of rice (or burned) paper. The major problem was, obviously, the root cause as to why: but practically, her oesaphagus was wasting away, a large gap between the top and bottom ends of it, nothing in between, and there was nothing the doctors could do. There was no tissue of quality that they could stitch together.
Somehow, her lovely husband had continued to see the church grow, see his wife every day, and painfully watch as his wife effectively wasted away, fed, of course, intravenously. The lady was desperate to be home, with her husband, and longed to walk their lovely dog again, but it seemed that would never happen, with every prospect looking as though she’d spend the rest of her life in medical care.
As I prayed, with my friend and her husband there, I heard myself say to her, ‘You’ll be walking your dog again soon’ – one of those occasions when you desperately hope it was God speaking, as it hadn’t passed through my ‘logic tester’ – if it had, I’d probably have kept quiet. I did believe, though, very strongly, that she would be healed, so I’m learning NOT to doubt those unfiltered words as they happen more and more often!
I spoke yesterday to the friend who’d first asked me to pray for her. Within a week her oesaphagus had regained it’s proper qualities, and they were able to do the -now – relatively minor – job of joining one end to the other. Other organs were healed, too.
She waslks her dog miles a day, now, I’m told, so I look forward to seeing them later in the week, maybe get their story on video!! God is AMAZING……
