‘False signs and wonders always draw the attention to a person and glorify a man. True miracles always draw our attention to God and they’re done in the name of Jesus.’ Yes, Bil Johnson!!
It’s one of the many reasons why I desperately try and avoid becoming well-known – there are too many ‘famous’ healing ministries in the last few decades – and why I’ve fought to stay ‘under the radar’ for the last 39 years.
When you do that, it means you don’t GET invited to the BIG conferences, meetings, churches, because no one has heard of you: which in turn means big ‘offerings’ or honorariums don’t come your way. For me, the temptation, in times of financial struggle can be immense: (I don’t charge for invitations – God told me I was never to charge when he called me to this ministry), and haven’t charged, or earned a salary for 39 years. It’s often very tough. I’ve had people tell me to ‘promote’ – advertise – myself: ‘wheedle’ my way in to the big conferences, write loads of books, sell CDs or DVDs of meetings (how boring listening to me twice!) What are we ‘selling’? Ourselves, or the miracles that draw our attention to God? Where did it all go wrong? I don’t know about you, but I can’t DO any miracles……
Jesus’s words to his disciples on Matthew 10 was this – Tell the people the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons, raise the dead. FREELY YOU HAVE RECEIVED, FREELY GIVE.’ I don’t see too much in that last sentence that says it’s right to charge a fee for the gift God’s given…
Bill Johnson says ‘Jesus did not give you the Holy Spirit so that you could do nothing. He has called us into an army whose assignment it is to invade the impossible’ ….. ‘I want to see how much of Jesus can truly possess my soul before I die. That’s my ambition’. Wow…. Yes, Lord…. That’s so much better than promoting me – I’m no one…..
